On April
4, 2003 there was a ceremony by Haifa Municipality naming the square at the
intersection of Lotus and Quadima streets after Mina Ben Zvi.
There was
a reception at the The Golda Meir Mount Carmel International Training Center
(MCTC), in Haifa. Mina was
a founder and the first manager of the Center.
The
ceremony was chaired by Braha Sela, the city secretary.
The first
speaker was Mr. Arazi of the Ministry for Foreign affairs, which sponsors the
Center.
The other
speakers were Ms. Mazal Redford, the present manager of the Center, Dr. Marsha
Lis - a niece of Mina, in the name of the family, Ms. Ruth Ashkenazi, the
Mayor's advisor on women status, and Ms. Hedva Almog, City councilor.
The
address of our sister, Fannette Mudek, of the Haifa, Nave-Shaanan Club was read
by Ms. Mira Ron, as Fannette was
on a mission of the Center to Cameroun.
This address
told the audience of some of the many activities of Mina who had been the head
of the IDF women Corps, Israel's representative on the U.N. commitee on Women
Status, active in immigrant integration in Israel and of course a founder of
the Soroptimist International of Israel.
In all
her posts she always fulfilled the aims of our organization. She promoted the relation
between the Clubs and the Center.
Both
Managers who followed Mina were also Soroptimists.
Following
the ceremony the attendents came to the unveiling ceremony at the square named
in he honour.
May she
rest in peace.
